medical transalation

22 Abr How would be a world without medical translations?

Have you ever imagined how would be a world with no medical translations? It would certainly be very different to the current one we are living in. Healthcare and medicine would have not improved so much because of a lack of communication. Medical translation eases such communication and exchanges a lot of information among several countries or parties speaking different languages. If medical translation would have never existed, that is how the current world would be:

Health

With no medical translations, how would have we received the legacy from the Greek, Roman or Arabian medicine? Those represent the beginning of the medical translation, but are not the only ones. The last centuries have played a very important role in health thanks to the international exchange of information (techniques, diagnosis, treatments…) but has only been possible with medical translation. Otherwise, we would be stuck in the glue and anchored to the past.

Drugs

Drugs are essential for curing diseases – from a cold to a cancer. But before taking them, it is very important to know the side effects, the dosage, the administration, the recommendations, the contraindications… With no medical translation we might have the drug (depending on the previous medical research), but such drug could not be administrated in countries speaking a different language… Unless several tests and analysis are passed again in the new country, nevertheless those processes are very expensive and take a long time. All roads lead to Rome, but it is much better a shortcut than a detour.

Researching

Nowadays, research is the base of medicine. Researchers, doctors, scientists, and many professionals all over the world study different areas of medicine for obtaining an improvement. It is important to remark that they all do not have the same mother tongue, but use a common one: English. English is the international language for researching, so many healthcare texts and documents need to be translated for making the contained information accessible to everyone.
